Renforced alligator lacing has long been the standard in joining belts together at the seam. Better end preparation has been implemented to insure the integrity of the alligator teeth Examples are the use of Kevlar® sewn and bonded to the splice.

In certain instances a flap over the metal alligator or clipper splice is used to protect the product from a "hot spot" on the belt. The flap is molded on the belt and is made from PTFE coated glass fabric.
